A new message is being sent out by Girl Scouts, and it's paving the way for the organization to operate in a more innovative and contemporary way. That message is this: Girl Scouts is redefining itself as the world's best leadership development program for girls and taking steps to ensure its relevancy to girls' lives for generations to come.
As its first step in reaching that goal, Girl Scouts has been streamlining its operations nationwide by redrawing council boundaries. In our area, the newly created Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland has brought together 16,000 Girl Scouts and 5,000 adults from six Kansas Girl Scout councils into one. As of Oct. 1, the operational headquarters for the 80-county Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland is in Wichita , and there are regional offices in Emporia , Garden City, Hays, Hutchinson and Salina .
This new structure will allow Girl Scouts to make the most effective use of resources, reduce duplication of efforts and create more opportunities in Girl Scouting for a greater number of girls.
Girl Scouts has 95 years of experience listening to and serving girls whose interests are as diverse as the times they live in. One reason Girl Scouts has remained so strong throughout the years is that it has always welcomed and embraced change.
The positive changes going on right now in Girl Scouts are allowing us to respond to the times and give girls what they want - activities that match their varied interests, personal-growth opportunities and increased ways to participate.
Already, Girl Scouts and adult volunteers across Kansas are taking advantage of all the locally coordinated programs and training opportunities they have available to them across the state. Increased travel opportunities, new friends to meet and unique experiences around every corner are just some of the things every girl and adult member in the Girl Scouts of Kansas Heartland can enjoy.
One thing is for sure. The Girl Scout presence throughout Kansas is as strong as ever! |
