General

Where can I buy Girl Scout products?
You can purchase most Girl Scout merchandise locally through out local Girl Scout Shop [shop.htm] or nationally through their website. http://shop.girlscouts.org/

How old do you have to be to become a Girl Scout?
The youngest Daisy Girl Scouts are 5 years old (kindergarten), while the oldest Teen Girl Scouts are 17 or seniors in high school. See [joinus.htm]

Who can be a member of Girl Scouts?
Girl Scouting is for every girl - everywhere. Membership is open to girls between the ages of 5 and 17, and to men and women over the age of 18, who make the Girl Scout Promise, accept the Girl Scout Law, and pay annual membership dues. Girl Scouts groups reflect the diversity of their communities. All girls are welcome regardless of socioeconomic status, racial, ethnic, cultural, religious background, or disability.

If I'm not a member of a troop - am I a real Girl Scout?
Absolutely! Being in a Girl Scout troop is not the only way to become a Girl Scout. While it may be the most popular option for girls - you can still live by the Girl Scout Promise and Law [joinus_benefits.htm] and participate in safe, wholesome and affordable programs that reflect the values of Girl Scouting.

Friends

I am a new Girl Scout. How can I make friends?
The best way to make new friends is to act towards others the same way you want them to act towards you. Girl Scouts have a long tradition of valuing friendship based upon the Girl Scout Promise and Law. Get involved in fun activities and you will soon find yourself part of the group.

How do I get along with the other girls in our troop if one girl plays only with two other girls in the troop?
It is great that you care about everyone in your troop. The purpose of Girl Scouting is to help girls be a sister to every Girl Scout. Ask your troop leader for help. Maybe your troop leader and you can come up with a project or activity that shows girls how to be friends. You could also be extra kind to that girl to make her feel welcome.

What do you do when your best friend in the troop is mad at you?
It is important to solve your differences so that you don't affect the way your troop or group works together. Nothing is worse than having members of a group take sides and become divided over someone's problems. A good troop leader provides a climate for girls to discuss their differences and move on. You might ask your leader to help you through this problem, but if you have been friends, you should really sit down and talk to each other.

I'm in Junior Girl Scouts. I need some ideas for earning badges during the summer. I have looked in my handbook and really haven't found anything.
Summer is a time for outdoor activities, hanging out at the library, pool or stretching out in a hammock and reading. If you are working on your own, why not go for the Swimming, Books, Drawing and Painting or Photography badges? If you haven't checked out the online computer badge, it's a great rainy day activity. You might also consider one of the badges about hobbies or Pet Care. If you are on a sports team, why not do the Team Sports badge? There are many great ways to earn badges during the summer!

I wasn't able to attend our troop's bridging ceremony. Does that mean I can't be a Junior Girl Scout?
We're sorry you couldn't attend your bridging ceremony. It's a special celebration and a way to publicly acknowledge moving up to the next level of Girl Scouting with friends and relatives. However, the actual ceremony is not the main part of bridging. A bridging award is given for the activities you do to move to the next level. If you have done these activities, you will receive the award.

Where can I find online Try-Its, badges, Interest Project awards, and STUDIO 2B Focus awards?
The only official Girl Scout earned age-level awards online are the computer-, cookie-, and safety-related ones found in Girl Scout Central: Insignia Found Online. Other Brownie Girl Scout Try-Its, Junior Girl Scout badges, Interest Project awards for Girl Scouts 11-17, and STUDIO 2B Focus awards are available in Girl Scout age-level books. Also online are some patches given for participation in Girl Guide/Girl Scout initiatives, such as "Our Rights, Our Responsibilities." www.girlscouts.org/program/gs_central/

Can I get a list of all the awards a Daisy, Brownie, and Junior Girl Scouts and Girl Scouts 11-17 can earn?
Visit the Awards, Badges, and Other Insignia section of Girl Scout Central for a list of nearly all the awards. Also check the awards books for particular age-levels, available through our local Girl Scout Store or www.girlscouts.org/program/gs_central/

Can I get the address and phone number of a Girl Guide/Girl Scout organization in another country?
World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts' policies do not encourage contacting other WAGGGS member organizations directly, instead asking that contact be undertaken only by international commissioners. Some organizations have very small staffs and would be overwhelmed by the number of inquiries. However, the WAGGGS Web site and the revised Trefoil Round the World do contain contact information for member organizations that have given their approval. To learn more about member countries, take our World Thinking Day Tour. www.girlscouts.org

How do I find a pen pal from another country?
GSUSA's official penpal program is suspended at this time. However, you can leave a message for other members on the WAGGGS Web site in the Community section's Visitor's Book. Please do not leave girls' addresses, phone numbers, or last names because this is a public, unmonitored site.
